Six Sentence Sunday

For my first six sentence Sunday, I selected the last six sentences from the first scene of my YA manuscript, DWARFED.

Even as my brain whispers the hopeful words, a second voice, this one buried under a mountain of cerebral tissue, laughs. The tiny hairs on the back of my neck stand up and goose bumps erupt on my arms. That’s right Grace, the deeper voice says in a dry tone. You go ahead and believe that henceforth everything will be rainbows and unicorns.
You’ll see, the first voice retorts, this will be fun! Perhaps, the second voice inflects, but such happy thoughts are often nothing more than hopeful illusion’s which shatter like a house of cards in a tempest.

You should check out additional six sentence Sunday posts. There's an interesting mix of styles and selections. The links to the submissions can be found here http://sixsunday.com/

  7. Wow, this is intriguing! I definitely want to read more. You have a compelling voice. ;c)

BTW, I've had horses most of my life (sadly, we lost our mare a couple of years ago - she was 26) and used to ride dressage, jump, and race barrels. I love horses, but lost a lot of riding time to being pregnant for years and years and haven't gotten back on, so to speak. ;c)

    1. Oh no, it's always hard to lose a treasured friend. I'm a working student at a dressage barn, and did a lot of jumping prior to a knee injury. I can't imagine my life without my horses. Thanks for visiting my blog :)

  8. I found your six very intriguing. I'm curious about the voices and what they represent. :)

One thing, on your blog, the text is very hard to read against your background photo. You might consider making the body text background opaque to allow for easier reading.
