I hope this time of year finds everyone in good health, high spirits, and surrounded by love!
This week, for my WeWriWa/Sunday Snippet post I'm sharing the start of one of my favorite
scenes from Snowflakes & Beeswax. Not only is it my favorite scene, but it's also the first scene I wrote. Wow, that feels like a long time ago!
Several talented writers are participating in this week's WeWriWa. You owe it to yourself to check out the snippet's they've posted on their blog.
“Oh, then what do you-” Before she could finish the sentence, Oliver's mouth covered hers, swallowing her words and wiping her mind of thought.
The world turned upside down. The kiss might have lasted the length of a heartbeat or half a lifetime she wasn't sure, and she didn't care.
Oliver ended it. His hands cupped her elbows and he straightened, pulling away slowly and stared down at her. Questions and emotions danced in the mossy green depths of his own eyes but Madelyn couldn't begin to sort them.
One kiss changed everything.

Thanks for stopping by.
This is so sweet, sometimes, one kiss really changes everything.
ReplyDeleteSo true! Thanks.
DeleteHooray! Finally!
ReplyDeleteWith a first-written scene like this, no wonder you wanted to fill in the rest of the book! :) So sweet!
It did help, especially since it was smack in the middle of the story so I was able to write towards it as opposed to crossing my fingers and hoping the story went in the right direction.
DeleteAh, so sweet! You put a smile on my face this morning : ) Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteA lovely sweet scene -- you captured the emotions so well.
ReplyDeleteA kiss does change it all... lovely scene!
ReplyDeleteOh, goosebumps, Jess! Your scene epitomizes what it feels like to fall over the edge, to become hopelessly confused by the beginning of love. Nice!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written, excellent description, hot!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful, sweet, emotional moment. How often a kiss does change everything.
ReplyDeleteA kiss, at least a good one, has the power to change the entire universe!
Delete::swoon:: That last line was my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteGive me a moment to end my swoon before I try to get coherent enough to comment - loved your excerpt. Oh my! Really a beautiful moment...
ReplyDelete:) Thanks! That's just the reaction I was hoping for!
DeleteBet she doesn't feel threatened by him at that moment.
ReplyDelete:D
Deleteawww, just beautiful, Jess. Not even a nitpick from me, lol! I don't read much romance but what I really like about this scene is Madelyn's reaction. She's a sweet girl, it's easy to see why Oliver is so attached to her, and you portray her innocence so wonderfully. Can't wait to see more of this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcia. I'm glad you're enjoying it, especially since it's not the type of story you usually read. I didn't intend for the characters to be as innocent and sweet as they are, but now that all is said and done, I'm really glad they did.
DeleteJess, this is beyond charming and romantic. Thanks for a lovely eight.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I was shooting for. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
DeleteThat's lovely!
ReplyDeleteA lovely snippet there.
ReplyDeleteAh, I love first kiss scenes!
ReplyDeleteI really like this line "The kiss might have lasted the length of a heartbeat or half a lifetime", very vivid. Good 8
ReplyDeleteThank you! Isn't it funny how certain lines just jump out at some people. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteOh man, this is awesome! Loved the final line, but this line really got me too: The kiss might have lasted the length of a heartbeat or half a lifetime she wasn't sure, and she didn't care.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm all warm and tingly inside. :D Wonderful snippet!
Wow. That was some kiss! Lovely 8.
