I'm not sure how many snippets I'll be able to read. I'm traveling, but I'll try to get to as many as I can.
“Here,”
Luke hands her to me. I cuddle her against my chest and coo meaningless words.
She closes her eyes and presses her thin body against my sternum and
sighs.
Luke steps out of the room for a
second before reappearing with a small ladder. “The room is small. Hopefully
that and the fact it’s still fairly warm outside will be enough to keep her
warm, but I figured I’d hang this heat lamp just in case. It could get cool at
night and she doesn’t have any littermates to snuggle with.
Luke climbs to the top of the ladder
and uses duct tape to attach the first of the lights to the ceiling.
Oh, I want to cuddle her too. Such a sweet scene and love the pic above. :)
ReplyDeleteLoyal fan of duct tape, here!
ReplyDeleteYou can fix anything with it, even a broken heart!
Aw, lovely description and wonderful picture!
ReplyDeleteSo caring, you 'draw' a lovely pic. the photo's cute too
ReplyDeleteVery heartwarming and makes me want to cuddle her too. Love the photo, as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad that Luke is being so concerned and helpful now.
ReplyDeleteAww sweet...the sentences and the picture.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet scene! Looking forward to reading more.

Still such a cute scene! :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable! And they work well together, don't they?
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like Luke is almost as invested in this piglet as Grace. Or maybe it's Grace he's invested in :) Wonderful snippet.
ReplyDelete(I think you lost an ending quote mark)
That's such a cute scene and picture! Is that a Flemish Giant, or just a normal-sized rabbit who looks huge next to the runt pig?
ReplyDeleteLuke is so lovely! And the description of the pig snuggling was adorable. Lovely few sentences.
ReplyDeleteAww that is such a wonderful visual. I loved it. Great job. :-) That piglet is so darn cute. :-)
ReplyDeleteLuke is so practical, which is endearing. Loved the photo - awwww...another excellent excerpt!
ReplyDeleteSuper snippet. warmth and love - Grace can't cuddlle the piglet all night.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally 'do' cute, but I have to admit that that picture is very sweet.
I love the affection and warmth of the scene. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteI like that Luke cares enough for her to make an effort for the piglet, too. Good snippet, Jess. :)
ReplyDeleteNothing like caring for a baby animal to endear a guy to us! Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteI like Luke. I've said that before, huh? He's a hunk. :-) lol
ReplyDeleteAn observation: when I read the word "sternum" it stopped my reading flow. No one else noticed, though, so it's probably just my own writerly weirdness.
Good 8, Jess. :-)
Luke is such a great guy. I like him. And I agree, that picture is so sweet. A very sweet scene.
ReplyDeleteAn adorable scene you have here. And Luke seems like a decent, likeable character.
ReplyDeleteLove it - Luke sounds like a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteGood old duct tape! They used to call it rocket tape around here, because there were times is was used to hold rocket components together. And I love your foster mother picture.
ReplyDeleteLet me guess, little piglet isn't going to sleep alone? :-) I'm going to second what Teresa wrote--I also stopped on sternum and I'm pretty comfortable with anatomy (I'm a bio teacher). Partly, I just don't think of the sternum as a soft, warm, cuddly spot.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I loved the snippet, too. I love her mothering, heart-melting reaction. And that picture is just so gosh-darn cute!
DeleteCute scene and almost as cute a photo.
ReplyDeleteAwww, this is a sweet and cute scene.
ReplyDeleteI know that little contented sigh. It's been so long since I've snuggled a piglet. Sweet eight, and adorable picture!
ReplyDeleteaww this is so sweet and heartwarming xx lovely!
ReplyDeleteOMG that is THE most precious picture! And the writing ... I can tell you've lived this. You don't miss a single detail. This is such a wonderful story, Jess!
