January 24 WeWriWa Post-Rendezvous with Destiny

Hi all!

This week I'm using the throw a dart method of choosing a snippet from my upcoming release, Rendezvous with Destiny. This is a WWII, friends to lovers, rural romance novella that will be released in just a few weeks.

Don't forget to check out the authors who are participating in this week's WeWriWa blog hop! You'll be glad you did. It's a talented and diverse bunch!

Rosika couldn’t explain the sense of foreboding she felt wrap around her throat when she watched Felicia climbed onto the makeshift table and launched into ringmaster mode.
She never should have agreed to come to this stupid party. She wished she’d talked Theo into doing something, anything else.
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Her mother’s no nonsense voice echoed in her mind. She was here now, there wasn’t any point in thinking about what might have been.
Felicia paced the length of the plank table, weaving around the flotsam of dishes. Her heel banged against a large wooden spoon, sending it and the bowl of mashed potatoes it had been in  flying towards a small cluster of people who scattered before it struck them.

I'm currently giving away three paperback copies of Rendezvous with Destiny via GoodReads. Feel free to sign up!

  1. Neat excerpt as usual, Jess. I remember bits of this story from weeks ago. Even though we're dropped into the middle of a scene here, I get the feeling you know a lot about Rosika. That helps you create somebody readers can relate to, no matter what year she lived in.

I'm hoping this is just in the blog post, but "climbed" and "launched" don't need to be past tense, unless you have "AS Felicia climbed".

I like your characters. They don't come across as flat, 2-D cutouts. Best of luck with book sales!!

  2. Marcia has an editor's eye. You paint a good scene. I could picture it as if I were part of the festivities dodging mashed potatoes.

  3. Makes me wonder what got this girl so riled up that she's pounding her way down the table!

  5. Glad the people scurried before the mashed potatoes were launched at them. lol. That's probably my favourite part of the scene. Great job describing the action!

  6. Wow, quite the scene going on! I could picture this girl up on the table and I'm with your heroine - disaster in the making. Very vivid snippet, an't wait to see what happens next.

  7. Oh, don't you just love friends like that? So fun to write about later! You create a vivid, exciting scene. Hope Rosika escapes relatively unscathed.

  9. Love the description of the table-top disaster. You get the impression she's a step away from a kick that will make an enormous mess.

  10. Sounds like fun! And the dog on the cover reminds me of Rodrigue's "Blue Dog"-- long time favorite.

  11. It's said that a "good friend would come and bail you out, a great friend would be sitting in the cell next to you" - wonder which would come closer to the unique friendship between these two because you just know that at least one is going to cause a great amount of trouble. Great snippet.

  12. Enjoyed the snippet. Loved this line: "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." Made me smile. Cute dog on the book cover, too. :)

  13. That Felicia sounds like one cute lady. I can relate to her in being talked into going to stupid parties. Great eight. (I see the climb was already mentioned, so I'm not going to point it out.)
