Re-Introducing Myself Blog Hop

                                                    Reintroduce Yourself Hop

Today is the day of the reintroduce yourself blog hop. Anyone interested in participating or learning more can check out the details here.

My reintroduction will be short, mostly because I'm running way behind on a work project right now. Hopefully I'll be be able to check out the other participant's intros later tonight, as well as catch up on my Six Sentence Sunday pals posts from yesterday.

1. Right now I mostly write web site content and other copywriting type stuff. While not my dream job, it's better than some other options.

2.I'm also an aspiring novelist. I've written some YA manuscripts, and am just now starting to do some research for an adult historical novel.

3. I have two horses-Nagg and Dilemma, plus my heart belongs to a pretty terrific gelding, Spooner. My world revolves around these three critters.

4. I feel extremely blessed to have grown up on a small farm.I feel sorry for those who didn't. City kids just don't know what they missed out on.

5. I love to read and will read just about anything. Exceptions to that include Steinbeck and Dostoyevsky, who I find incredibly dull.

6. While I was active in agriculture growing up, I moved away from it for a few years, recently I've found my interest re-stirring, and I've started to pay attention to the agavocacy movement. It interests me that I've become fascinated in areas of agriculture that previously failed to captivate me.

7. I prefer moonlight to sunshine, and summer to winter.

8. During my 4-H and FFA days I showed market hogs, and have recently found myself daydreaming about the possibility of having a small herd.

  1. I have to suggest To A God Unknown and The Winter of Our Discontent as being not boring Steinbeck books. The former is about ranching (to a degree). Those might be worth a try!

    1. I'll have to check them out. I like his version of Black Pearl, but struggled through Grapes of Wrath. Thanks for the suggestions :)

  2. I grew up in England until I was 11, so I'm familiar with country life. I live in a major Canadian city, now, but the city is surrounding by farms.

    1. I love Canada! In high school one of the 4-H programs I was involved with spent four days touring various farms around Toronto.

  3. Hi Jess. I currently live in the countryside and feel lucky to raise my kids here. Though I do miss some of the things a city can provide like museums and the cinema. Luckily for us, we don't live too far away from a major city. Great to meet you. (:

    1. A friend and I were talking about how nice it would be to live close to a city large enough to have a good theater. I'd have to move to the other side of the state.

  4. Hey Jess, nice meeting you :) I'd love to live on a farm as I've recently become interested in Homesteading. You're a lucky gal!

Best of luck with the writing!

    1. I wouldn't mind winter so much if I didn't spend so much time outside, of if I didn't get cold all the time. Nice meeting you!

  6. Hi! It's nice to meet you. :) I love spending time in the country. I prefer it over the city any day.

    1. I've got the best of both worlds right now. My apartment is tucked in the back of a barn, but I'm about half a block from a city (small town) limits.

  7. I grew up on a farm too and envy you your horses. Great that you have a job in writing even if it's not your dream job.

    1. I keep telling myself earning a living as a writer's a good thing, and I keep chugging away at it, but that's a lot easier to remember when I'm not up to my ears in appliance repair articles.

  11. I love horses. For my birthday this year my hubby took my on a carriage ride. The sound of the Lady Camille hooves on the road were calming. Afterwards I gave her plenty of love and kisses. She was to die for!

    1. You're one up on me. I've ridden lots, but I've never, ever gone on a carriage ride. I've been in wagon, even convinced a friend to teach me how to drive one, but I don't think that counts. I should probably add carriage ride to my bucket list

  12. My mom grew up on the farm, and when I was younger, I loved going to visit my grandparents there. So many wonderful memories.

  13. Don't sweat the copywriting stuff, it can be a stepping stone to better things. We've all had those horrible writing jobs at some point in our careers (don't get me started)

  14. Great to meet you Jess.
    Agavocacy... what a cool word.
Your "about me" mentions a love of British humor... I love it too! Especially Mrs. Bucket from Keeping Up Appearances.
I also love summer, and I'm fortunate to enjoy warm weather for most of the year... we have a sub-tropical climate which is hot and humid.

  16. Hi, Jess,

An all around type of woman. Awesome. I grew up in the city, and it does have its pluses, believe it or not. As an artist is was a perfect setting for me with theatre and museums galore. Thankfully my parents packed us up during the fall for picking apples in the Catskill mountains of NY and we spent many summers at the Jersey shore.

I am a mix of both... I LOVE the city, but I also appreciate the country life. LOVE animals, farms, mountains, and any kind of water.

I find it fascinating that you write y/a and love agriculture. An incredible mix.
