The topic for the blog hop is what makes a male character in a book or movie sexy?”
Hmm. The first character that comes to mind is The Phantom.
I don’t remember a time when I haven’t loved this character. The problem with
having a crush on this character is that … well … he’s pretty much a horrible.
This is a guy who basically stalks an impressionable young woman, takes over
about every aspect of her life, and then brainwashes her. There’s also a point
when he gets so angry with her he breaks a chandelier and sets fire to an opera
house. And that’s just the version from the movie and play. In the actual
book
by Gaston LeRoux, The Phantom is a terrifying psychopath who doesn’t have a single
redeeming quality. And yet I have crushed on them him for years.
Since this movie, I've had a thing for Gerard Butler!
He’s cute, has a great accent, can sing Music
of the Night, likes dogs, and from what I can
tell, has a fantastic sense of humor

I fell head over heels
in love with dark, brooding, heartbroken, Snape the first time I read
The Sorcerer’s Stone and not once did my resolve falter. The 7th
book came out I ran around the barn yelling I was right at the top of my lungs.
That was a day no one is going to forget any time soon.
My current crush is everyone’s favorite high functioning
sociopath, Sherlock Holmes, though I have to admit in this particular case I
suspect that my
interest has less to do with the actual character, and more to do with the fact that I find the voice Cumberbatch uses for the role incredibly sexy.

Real life literary figures? I have to admit that I have always had a
thing for Edgar Allen Poe. Even thought, by today’s standards, his short
stories are downright chaste, I’ve always found something about his writing
style to be just a little erotic and consider the author to be incredibly
romantic.
Looking at this list, I’m starting to suspect it’s a good
thing I’m currently single, because apparently what floats my boat is a penchant
for dark clothing, unapproachability, intelligence, sarcasm, and well, quite frankly, insane. Not the kind of guy most parents want their daughters to settle down with.

have any of the traits that make the characters I mentioned sexy. I modeled him after the type of guy that I’m attracted to in real life. He’s sweet, a little funny, and knows when to take a stand. He’s also pretty cute and likes animal. If you want to know more about Oliver and the woman he falls in love with, leave your email address in the comment section. I love the tortured hero but has a hidden heart of gold, is fiercely protective and will sacrifice for those he loves.

I love a man who's protective, loyal, and funny

Loyalty is a must!
DeleteA man with no redeeming qualities is not someone I'd think about as toe curling, unless they curled in fear. We all have our likes, good thing too. It makes the world more interesting. Don't hate me, but I've never seen the musical, play or movie, nor have I read the book.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I completely agree with you. That's why I can't figure out just why I'm so infatuated with the character of the Phantom. He shouldn't be likable, yet I can't get enough of him. In real life, I certainly wouldn't want to meet anyone like him. I do think that the play/movie version of him does have some good features though his moral compass is way out of wack.
DeleteI like when men is loyal, alpha male, sarcastic, funny, sweet, hot body…
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance :)
It doesn't matter if it's the hero or heroine, I adore sarcasm in characters! Sadly, I think that's an aspect that seems to come across better in film than it does in literature.
DeleteI like the movie version of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings. The book version wasn't as impressive.

I love the strong silent types, with a heart of gold that doesn't immediately show, smart, who can have fun when they let themselves do so.

Sounds like you and I are on pretty much the same wave length. For the record, the guys with the best arms, farmers/ranchers. I don't care how often a guy goes to a gym, they can't match the muscles that are built up via hauling hay.
DeleteI love a caring, protective hero, one who can go all alpha male, yet doesn’t feel threatened and even encourages their loved one taking the lead and taking charge. A sense of humor is also important. It doesn’t matter if it’s just goofiness, dry humor, wit, etc, just some type of sense of humor. He has to be able to deal with feelings, not all, oh I’m a guy, we don’t do those things, over-macho crap. I want a guy who’s secure in his massculinity (you know, not afraid to wear pink or scared people will think he’s “gay” or “a girl” for actually doing/enjoying things like going to the theatre or dressing fashionably). Loyalty and fidelity are extremely important as well as being able to cook. A guy who can cook is super sexy. And romantic at heart as well.

I'm not a huge fan of goofy humor, but I'm a sucker for dry wit and sarcasm. And you're so right about cooking, that's a fantastic trait!
